At Good Dog! we feel strongly that a successful relationship
between a human and a dog requires understanding and
trust. A dog needs to understand what is expected of him, and
we need to understand normal dog behavior. Behaviors that
are natural for dogs are often strange and unacceptable to
humans. At Good Dog! we address dog behavior without
attributing any negative human emotions or motivations to it.
The better we understand dog behavior the more patient and
creative we can be with changing behavior that is undesirable.

We believe in and use humane training methods and avoid
collars and electronic tools that cause dogs discomfort. We
believe that physical punishment is unnecessary. Dog
behavior can be changed by preventing unwanted behavior
and reinforcing desirable behavior.

We believe that dog training should be fun for everyone,
including the dog! By identifying what a dog loves we can
reward him in powerful ways. All dogs want something - food,
a tennis ball, a tug toy, a squeaky, or a stuffed toy. Playing
games with dogs provides fast-paced entertainment that
makes people laugh. Neither dogs nor their humans notice
that they are reinforcing lessons and practicing behaviors
under pressure. It is all just fun and games.
