In-Home Training

How will we work together? In email or during our initial phone call you will tell me about your dog and your goals.  During our first meeting, I will complete an assessment of your dog’s behavior, create a plan for management to avoid repetition of any problematic behaviors, develop a training and behavior plan, teach you how to train your dog the behaviors that your dog needs, and then coach you as you train your dog. We will improve your dog’s behavior during the first lesson! A packet of handouts and videos will keep you working, learning and moving your dog forward so we can train at a more advanced level during our subsequent lessons.  Before I leave you can schedule your next appointment or you can reach out when you are ready for more training.

How much does private training cost? 3 lesson packages are $380. Puppy Head Start is $350. Tuition for your dog’s training is due before your first lesson. I will send an invoice that you can pay via debit or credit card. Included in your tuition is travel to your home if you live within 10 miles of the intersection of Horsetooth and Shields. Travel Fee: $10 will be added for each visit for distances of 11- 15 miles. If you live further than 15 miles we could meet at a Fort Collins Park or via Zoom.

Available Training Times - Day: Mon- Thurs 11:30, 1, 2:30, 4, Evening: Mon 5:30, T and Th 7:00

Puppy Head Start: In-home coaching on puppy training and raising

Before puppy training or socialization classes you and your pup will benefit from professional advice on housetraining and getting your puppy to sleep through the night, and training in eliminating attention seeking behaviors such as puppy nipping, jumping and barking.

Don’t wait for bad behaviors to become habits! Puppy Head Start is three one-hour long lessons filled with behavior training, temperament development, and puppy raising education.

This program is designed to benefit puppies between 8 and 16 weeks of age when everything is new, puppies are easily excited, and easily trained!

Sheri, You have made a big difference in our being successful in making things work better with our puppy. Your guidance in how to choose the right dog, just getting one dog, what supplies we needed, how to structure the dog's schedule, how to potty train, leash train, deal with chewing/biting and digging, and other issues has been a game changer this time around in getting a dog. Because of all your help, I feel more confident that we'll be able to raise a happy, healthy and well behaved dog.” Shared with permission of the author, Elizabeth from Fort Collins

Older Puppy Training: In-Home training for your 17 week to 8 month old puppy

Did you recently adopt an older puppy and you need some guidance on house training and chewing? Or did your pup grow up too quickly for you to fit training into your schedule? I can help your pup acquire new habits that work for you and your family. It is never too late to train!

Your pup is of the age where meeting and greeting people and dogs is more likely since your pup is fully vaccinated. Leash walking, come when called, and greeting people and dogs out on walks is more important than ever! When the pup has a clear idea of what you expect, she can control herself to earn access to new friends and explore the world. Let’s get her thinking so you can relax and enjoy outings with your new best friend!

Fearful Fido: Help for Puppy Mill Rescue Dogs, Reservation Dogs and Feral Dogs

Fearful Fido in-home lessons are designed to reduce fearful reactions in survivors of hoarding situations or commercial breeding facilities (puppy mill dogs) as well as feral dogs and reservation dogs now living in urban settings. The primary drive of many of these dogs is to stay safe. In doing so they tend to spend many hours a day hunkered down in bed or on the sofa “recharging,” especially when something unpredictable happens. By showing your dog how to earn yummy food with no strings attached and associating words with these rewards you will begin to create no pressure communication between the two of you.

During this course your dog will gain skills for exploring and learning. While building your dog’s confidence with simple games you will prepare your dog for leashing, leash walking and cooperative medical care. We will work in your home, and yard with the goal of your dog being comfortable in the community.

Too Excited! Behavior Series

Described by a CSU professor as "A total paradigm shift!"

My work with young, super-fit, smart dogs (many from shelters and rescues) gives me the insight and experience to teach your dog to have impulse control. I will show you how to combine management and rapid rates of reinforcement in short training sessions to train your dog to be the best dog he can be for you and your family.

Too Excited! Crazy Homecomings - Essential training and the technology to eliminate barking and jumping. Learn the correct use of the Treat and Train remote reinforcement machine to improve your dog's behavior!

Too Excited! On the Street - Changes your dog’s emotions toward people and dogs, bikes, buses and trucks (squirrels and rabbits, too!) during walks to eliminate reactivity for more relaxed outings.

Too Excited! Nipping during Play - Eliminates biting of hands and clothes during play by teaching your dog to manage his arousal in order to keep the game going.

Each topic is covered in 3 one-hour lessons in your home for $380

Basic Obedience with a Focus on American Kennel Club Canine Good Citizen

For some dogs, learning at home is 100% easier than learning in a classroom setting. If your dog is distracted by other dogs because he LOVES them or is unable to concentrate around other dogs because he is a bit shy, then you are going to be much more successful initially training at home.

Once your dog has the basics down at home, we can use those basics in your yard, then on the street or at the park to help your dog learn to concentrate when faced with exciting distractions. Eventually, your dog will be able to take his skills into a classroom setting and build on the foundation you gave him at home.

The AKC Canine Good Citizen is the gold standard for dog obedience. Your dog will be ready to earn the AKC CGC certificate when we have taught him to sit for greeting, lie down, stay, come on cue, walk beside you on a loose leash in a busy setting and sit quietly with a friendly stranger while you are out of sight.

Tuition is $380 for 3 one-hour long lessons in your home.
